Illustration, follow up
It’s been nearly two months that I’ve started working with my illustrator. I have to admit that the process is as exhilarating as it is stressing. Exhilarting because suddenly you see your words developping in front of your eyes and that’s a really strong feeling. Even more when the illustrations are beautiful. Stressing, because you’re the one in charge et you have to lead your illustrator in the direction you deem the best without crushing her creativity.
I have to confess that sometimes I have found it difficult to know my place. Even more because I don’t know much, or to be completely honest, nothing about illustrations. But I do know what I like and what I don’t.W
With my illustrator, we arrive to the point where we had to chose the colour palette. Because yes, there’s a colour palette, an intensity to the colours that vary and which will give the finish product a very different look depending on the chosen options. I was struggling. She did a first illustration with a certaint type of colours. It was to blend for me. So she darekend everything, it was even worse. So to make myself clear, I talk about one of her illustrations where the colours were clear and vibrant. And it worked. It was probably not very professional, but it was the best I could do to make myself understood.
Now I know that colour choices and how to express what I want is something I need to train myself in. Maybe a course meant for illustrator would be the right way to go. I’ll see. In any case, I never stop learning.
